WHAT ARE COOKIES
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. Accepting the cookies used on our websites does not give us access to your personally identifiable information, but we may use the cookies to identify your computer. This enables our website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.
There are a few different types of cookies. The most common are session cookies, which are temporary. They are used to manage a single browsing session. They simply tell the server that all of your requests within a period of time came from the same computer and should be treated as a single session. Session cookies are sometimes called transient cookies or temporary cookies. They are not stored on your hard drive, but are rather kept in active memory. They are deleted when your session closes, or after a period of inactivity (usually 20 minutes or so).
Also common are permanent cookies, used to identify you over multiple independent sessions. These are the ones the handle the “Remember Me” or “Keep Me Logged In” functionality of many websites and apps.
Besides affecting your browsing experience, persistent cookies are also used for analysis and performance data tracking. They can be used to tell how long you stay on a site, how you move through the site, and other behavioral patterns. They are also used to count the number of individual, unique visitors to a site, as well as how often returning visitors come back. Capital Link uses all of this information to guide our decision making regarding everything from site design to image choice to page length and content.
WHAT TYPES OF COOKIES WE USE
As outlined above we use session and permanent cookies enabling us to track the information outlined above.
We also occasionally use web beacons in conjunction with cookies to compile aggregate statistics about web site usage. A web beacon is an electronic image, called a single-pixel (1×1), or clear-GIF. You may render web beacons unusable by rejecting their associated cookies. This data is not personally identifiable or linked personally identifiable information.
THIRD PARTY COOKIES
Capital Link may at its discretion use third party cookies for the purpose of improving the security of our website. One of them reCAPTCHA? reCAPTCHA is used to check whether the data entered on our website (such as on a contact form) has been entered by a human or by an automated program. To do this, reCAPTCHA analyses the behaviour of the website visitor based on various characteristics. This analysis starts automatically as soon as visitor visits the pages where reCAPTCHA is used. For the analysis, reCAPTCHA evaluates various information (e.g. IP address, how long the visitor has been on the website, or mouse movements made by the user). The data collected during the analysis are forwarded by reCAPTCHA to Google.
Capital Link is using several RSS feeds posting news and content on its websites. These may contain cookies provided by the party generating the RSS feed and Capital Link has no knowledge or control over them.
Capital Link may use third-party media companies to place ads for Capital Link products or services on their websites. In such cases, the online media company may place a cookie or web beacon on your, the user’s, computer. This data is anonymous and is not linked to personal data on your computer or to Capital Link’s databases.
