One of the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) busiest ports is slated to deploy private 5G follownig an agreement between Verizon Business and Associated British Ports (ABP). Delivered in partnership with Nokia, Verizon’s private 5G platform will provide the Port of Southampton with a secure, low-latency private network connection.
One of a network of 21 ports operated by ABP, the Port of Southampton is the UK’s number one port responsible for £40 billion in exports from the U.K. every year. It is also the UK’s top port for cars and cruise, handling approximately 900,000 cars and welcoming millions of cruise passengers annually.
With this new contract the Port of Southampton will become the first UK mainland port with a private 5G network.

The Verizon private 5G platform will provide ABP with a reliable and secure private wireless data network across selected areas within the East and West Docks of the Port.
