Arcadia and TEN: The Strength of Greek Shipping Reflected in Modern Next-Generation Tankers

May 11, 2026 Articles, Articles & Blogs

Two state-of-the-art Suezmax tankers under the Greek flag, built in South Korea, confirm the leading role of Greek shipowners in global maritime transport.

Another characteristic example of the strong presence of Greek shipping on the international stage is the recent activity of two modern Suezmax tankers, both sailing under the Greek flag and manned by Greek seafarers.

The newly built vessels, Dr Irene Tsakos, belonging to the NYSE-listed Tsakos Energy Navigation interests of Dr. Nikos Tsakos, and Aegean Winner of Arcadia Shipmanagement, owned by Panagiotis and George Angelopoulos, were constructed during 2025–2026 at South Korea’s leading shipyards, Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The two vessels recently took part in a ship-to-ship (STS) transfer operation off the coast of Houston in the United States.

Their participation in such a critical energy operation highlights not only the technological superiority of the Greek-owned fleet, but also the confidence the international market places in Greek shipowners and their crews.

At a time of intense geopolitical and energy realignments, Greek shipping continues to serve as a pillar of stability and efficiency for global trade.

Both Dr. Nikos Tsakos and Panagiotis and George Angelopoulos are investing in a modern, efficient fleet prepared to meet the demands of the next era of global shipping.

The message is clear: growth driven by quality, technology, and respect for the environment, with Greek identity at its core.
