A bulk carrier reported being approached and attacked by multiple small vessels 20km (11 nautical miles) west of Sirik, near the Strait of Hormuz, Britain’s sea trade monitoring agency has said. The incident took place on the morning of May 3, 2026.

Later that day, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced that all crew on the unidentified northbound ship were reported to be safe, and no injuries or environmental damage were recorded.

Subsequently, Iran’s Fars news agency pointed out that the ship was not seized and was only stopped by the Iranian navy to check documents as part of supervisory procedures.

Based on AIS tracking data from the company Pole Star Global, the vessel is identified with high probability as the cargo ship Minoan Falcon (90.000 dwt).

The tracking data indicated that the ship briefly entered waters near Iran’s territory before abruptly reversing course.

Afterwards, its transponder signal went offline, raising concerns over the crew’s safety. Following the incident, the ship is now sailing off Fujairah.

The Minoan Falcon is owned by Myron Tsatsakis and Modion Maritime.
