Dynacom Strikes Deal for 18-Year-Old Suezmax at $65M

Greek shipowner George Procopiou has recently completed a sale of one of Dynacom’s older vessels.

The suezmax tanker Gladiator, built in 2008 in Japan, was sold at $65 million, Splash 247 reports, an impressive sale considering market conditions as well as the vessel’s age.

According to the VesselsValue database, the 149,944 dwt tanker, constructed by Universal, has now been renamed Visund and belongs to Lam Kee Shipping, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates.

Notably, the tanker market sector has been experiencing a rise in earnings recently, primarily driven by tensions in the Persian Gulf.

This sale is a result of these conditions, and the second deal stricken by Dynacom which also sold a tanker built in 2009, earlier in the year.

This price for a vessel of this age, typically nearing the end of its operational life, potentially shows that buyers are willing to pay a premium for immediate assets, even those with significant age, that will generate revenue almost instantly, further highlighting the rising demand for such vessels.

Dynacom has also managed moving some of its vessels through the Strait of Hormuz despite the continued risk.
